Romero Britto is a Brazilian painter, sculptor, neo-pop artist and screen printer. His art is composed of several cultural elements, namely pop art, cubism and graffiti. His particular style is often filled with love and optimism. He did his own art education and in 1983 he discovered Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso during a trip to Paris.
Michel Roux, the founder of the Absolut Vodka advertising campaign, gave him one of his first commissions. Britto was asked to change the look of the bottle in a campaign seen around the world. He also worked with Movado, Enrico Coveri, Disney, BMW, Pepsi, the United Nations and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
Britto has a gallery in Miami but his work can be seen all over the world. In January 2010, he created the Save Haiti Saturday logo, a national initiative for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti that destroyed much of the region. The same year, he created the official poster of the World Cup for FIFA. He also participated in the parade at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí, the famous avenue surrounded by terraces where the best samba schools parade during the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. He also created the theme for the samba school Renascer de Jacarepaguá for the carnival parade in 2012.
Simon & Schuster and Rizzoli publishes Britto's works. Some of his public installations can be seen in London's Hyde Park, at the Cirque du Soleil show during Super Bowl XLI, at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport and at Berlin's O2 Stadium. Britto approaches art with the belief that his work is about participating and encouraging positive change. This is why he advocates for causes such as Jude's Children's Research Hospital. He speaks at public events such as the Davos Economic Forum, schools and institutions. Britto has lived and worked in Miami since 1989.
